BikeGremlin videos now on Rumble too!

I've been working with computers for decades and if one thing is certain that is that stuff breaks down. You need to have backups. And a third, backup-of-a-backup copy, just to be on the safe side.

Storing videos takes a lot more storage compared to hosting articles (with photos). I do have local backups of all the BikeGremlin videos, but they are not available publicly (of course), and they are not resistant to wars and natural disasters. So, I was looking for a free online storage, ideally one that lets people watch videos right away.

Over the past few years, I've tested a few YouTube alternatives. And, I've decided to go with Rumble.

Technically, it is way behind YouTube in every possible way, but it does let me upload the videos - so that everyone can watch them for free on either desktop or a smartphone. The platform seems to be well funded and relatively stable.

Starting of Septembre 2024, practically all the BikeGremlin YouTube videos are available on Rumble as well:

P.S.
Apart from any technical problem, I've seen YouTube delete videos or entire channels without any good reason. In my own experience, their automated system sometimes "flags" videos without any reasonable cause, and you can't reach a reasonable human to set things straight. That is another reason why I was actively looking for a decently-working backup platform.

Rumble is tiny compared to YouTube (a fraction of one percent in number of users). If it grows, I expect it to become just as crazy in those terms, and will then probably be looking for a new alternative. For now, however, it works OK, and, unlike YouTube, I can communicate with a real, reasonable, English-speaking human from that platform and expect any nonsense problems (video "flags") to be fixed.

As a man falling from a 10-storey building says: "so far, so good." :)

You can't log in without a VPN. There are no subtitles, as well as no translation. Alas...

Yes - the Rumble platform is technically inferior to YouTube. There is a huge difference in overall quality in every aspect.

I didn't know it won't let you login without a VPN - I hate websites that block any country or region (there are a lot better ways to secure a website than that)!

I stand corrected. It appears that Rumble is not doing the blocking of any country - quite the opposite.

The sum does not change from changing the places of the terms...
I will read the texts.
In fact, the main problem is the lack of subtitles and translation...

That is a major downside compared to YouTube (and one of the reasons why I plan to keep my videos on YouTube for as long as it is possible - which I hope will be for decades more).

I think that the auto translation requires bigger hardware resources and most companies can't afford that (not without charging the users for it). Google (that owns YouTube) is the big brother that smiles upon us and gives us a lot of cool stuff for free (for now).
