Black Friday 2024 tools and bike(parts)

I've decided to make a separate topic for the mechanics-related stuff (as opposed to the IT-releated stuff).

There is a nice English saying that doesn't translate nicely to my native:
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
I'm still not 100% sure this is a good idea (or recommendation for that matter), but this is what I spent my money on:

• Pony Portable Folding Work Table, 2-in-1 as Sawhorse & Workbench
  (Amazon affiliate link - and, for us in Europe, the German Amazon affiliate link link)

As far as I can see, most foldable/portable work benches in that price range come with cheap low-quality wood top that's not resistant to moisture and abuse (and isn't real wood very often, but that "composite" glued stuff or "bamboo"). This one is plastic + aluminium (though the Americans who are selling it still haven't learned to spell that properly ). It also comes with some clamps that look like they are of a decent quality (these are handy regardless of the portable bench).

Will know in a couple of years if it was a good idea. Looks promising, and looking forward to using it.

My work bench, which is much simpler, spends most of its time on the balcony. However, sometimes it makes it very easy to do some work.

I like being able to work outside of the workshop, and have a piece of wood (or metal for that matter) held tightly while I'm drilling, grinding, or sanding it.

Should be faster and simpler to keep the shop clean (and the motorcycle without any spark-burrs from grinding LOL).

And I like the pride in my husband in the eyes of my wife, when literally the next day after the request, she receives a pair of new cutting boards in the kitchen Made of beech, carefully sanded and treated with oil

Or here is a stand for a knife sharpener... Using a work bench, clamps, it is much easier and faster to make such a stand

That is impressive!

Nowadays I just use a diamond block with some rubber stands for hand sharpening (and some leather for the final touch).

Oh, Relja... I won't even show the contents of the two suitcases with the "stones"... Unfortunately, I'm an enthusiastic person, and I can't always say "no" to myself!
So there are sharpening stones, natural and synthetic, from Russia, America, England, and China...

That's it, we need to stop with the topic of sharpening

I went almost the full circle and then back - reverted back to the simplest basics and decided to just be happy with "imperfectly sharpened" knives (i.e. when the wife says knives cut very nicely is good enough).

Saves time for other stuff, but one must learn to be happy with the imperfect.
