Hello everyone! ( my intro)

Hello everyone,
my name is Oskars, I like cycling (travelling with panniers etc), sports, my hobbies are DIY audio equipment and fishing. I also like to maintain and repair bicycles (of which there are quite a few in my family - cube acid 29 mtb, kona dew , Trek FX etc.) and learn something new.

Thanks to the forum author for sharing his knowledge and opinion - it helped me build my trek fx 7.1 as commuter bike -I wanted it done for minimal costs because I got the frame practically for the price of scrap metal ( btw the model year is the same as yours, only in black).
regards,

Hi Oskars and welcome. :)

Trek FX 7.1 is a very nice platform for building a cool commuter bike. ❤️
... but white frame is faster. 🙃

Ok, a little lunch trip - a little about my bike equipment:
I decided to redo it to 1x9 because the previous 3x7 system was completely worn out when I get the bike...
I installed aliexpress raceworks dream cranks (some 1000km on them, so far so good) and 38T in the front (thanks for the video about the BB spacers) and in the rear an Alivo 9 speed system and a 11-36 cassette, which is enough for my area and my muscles 😊 . More speeds could be added, but in terms of price (new alivio cassette + alivio shifter/ derailleur + sram 9 sp chain = 50 EUR). In addition, I swap the handlebar stem to 31.8mm diameter one in order to install an wider aluminum handlebar.
I plan to put a rear rack on this bike as well. I like that it has standard fasteners to put the rack (unlike special one made by cube/acid on my Cube- the rear wheel must be removed, because the screws are from the inside of the frame – who invented this ? )

Cube "special" racks ("ACID" or something like that) do seem like an impractical idea. :(

As far as I understand - the idea is to integrate the mud guard and for a "prettier" appearance - the screws cannot be seen.
But overall the cube rack itself is good, the pannier bags hold well.

Yes - it looks lovely, but you must use Cube mudguards and racks only (or improvise mounts with some clamps)?

on mtb I like to use SKS blade type mudguards- although they are not as effective as full length mudguards, but if it rains for a long time - it doesn't matter - you'll be wet anyway :D
You can see in the picture - I stuffed it under the trunk and put dry bag on top. I ] don't like the full mudguards - they will have to be adjusted according to the size of the tires and tends to brake ...
