Hi, my name is Đorđe and I recently discovered your YouTube channel. It’s a really great source of knowledge about bicycle mechanics. As I love to ride bicycles since I was a little kid, recently I’ve become more and more interested in becoming a mechanic and viewing my bicycle not only as a machine for commuting.

Although there is a saying “prosto kao bicikl” in Serbian, things are not so simple nowadays, and there are a lot of different parts and techniques to learn. Even simple bike cleaning could be a source of big dispute.

Can you tell me if you are interested in having some kind of apprentice? I would love to help in the mechanical shop and learn. Even if you just need help on a project or two, I would gladly assist.

Hello and welcome,

Yes, bicycles are branching out into several (loosely?) related areas - requiring knowledge and understanding of hydraulics, electricity (and electronics) in addition to even bike mechanics is getting more complex with no long-term standards.
Many bike shops limit the scope of their support to exclude stuff they are not able to work on.

Apprenticeship is not something I can offer in the near future - for at least another full year, if not longer. I try to make articles and videos cover as much as possible, but for the time being, that is all I can offer.

Thanks for the reply I’ll definitely keep following your work and learning from your content.

I would also recommend Park Tool Youtube channel as a very good source for learning (they don't go into every nuance and detail, but are probably the best source for starting).
Yes, it is an advertising channel for the tool manufacturer, but it is still excellent - and you don't have to buy their tools. :)

Thanks you for the recommendation, I currently thinking starting some project for learning purposes, maybe assembling a simple bicycle from scratch is a good starting point.
