I have a new 8 speed chain with a quick link,which I want to mount on a drivetrain.It is 117+1 quicklink.If I shorten it,is it important Where exactly to break and connect the chain,near the quicklink or anywhere else?
Thanks,I managed to mount a new chain,but now it's skipping on some gears unlike older chain.IF I continue riding a new chain on an old freewheel and chainrings could it happen that it stretches quickly?I am considering to mounting an old chain again.Could it be that issue is due to using 8 speed chain on a 6 speed freewheel? Maybe I should look for a 6 speed specific chain?Hi,
I wuld remove the quick link and then remove the needed number of links on either side (it doesn't matter which).
Only when I need to lengthen a chain, I try to make sure that I don't use two quick links too close to each other (I like to have at least 5 links space between them - colour me superstitious ).
